Helena's hat was custom made by Carissa, a hair stylist at my salon. The feather's are left over from our wedding reception. I made her dress. Jorge has his art, I have mine.

Helena kept that hat on all night. She played the part so well strangers asked to take her picture on more than one occasion. Jorge was so proud.

Graduation

After 3 1/2 years of hard work and sleepless nights, Jorge has graduated from Art Center College of Design with a BFA from the school of graphic design. We are so proud of him and excited to see what he will do from here. For now though, we are just enjoying having him home. Congratulations Jorge, we are so proud of you.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the graduation and attended the show the night before. We are grateful for your love and support.

For the 4th of July this year, we decided to set our Claremont traditions aside and spend the weekend at a cabin in Big Bear (thank you Leah). We got to go out on the Lake, celebrate Zoe's birthday, play cards and, of course, eat until our pants didn't fit. Helena and I were a little sad that Jorge wasn't able to join us (graduation around the corner) but Courtney and Cameron were able to come which helped make up for his absence. Overall a very fun weekend.

Jessica, Lisa and I had a wonderful visit with 2 1/2 year old Aidan (who was excited to hold the babies) five month old Helena and two month old Thomas.

At one point, while shopping for baby clothes, my mom told me to be sure and take pictures of Helena in my favorite outfits, something she regrets having neglected to do. No problem!

Helena has developed the ability to stick her tounge out.

This is Jorge's mom, aka Abuela Clara, giving Helena her bath. Clara spends every Thursday babysitting on the one day Jorge and I are both gone. She is a great help.

It takes a village

It's my first official Mother's day. I've been a mother for all of about three months and I have figured out one thing, this day is not mine, it belongs to my mother. I have done nothing to deserve a day in my honor, my mom on the other hand, is the village it takes to raise a child. If I am a fraction of the mother that my mom has been not only to her biological children but the countless others graced with a touch of her motherhood, Helena is in good hands.

I love you mom.

Helena was born at 4:40 pm on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland, CA. Labor was induced that morning at 6am after 41 3/7 weeks of pregnancy and went so smoothly that the doctor missed the birth and Helena was delivered by a nurse with only 2 pushes. At 7 lb 10 oz and 20 inches long, she was much smaller than expected. That was short lived, at two months she now weighs over 12 lbs.

We love her very much and cherish every minute we are blessed to have her in our lives.

Something I have learned...

Nothing brings back the pain of child birth quite like sweaty, bloated hospital pictures. Call it vanity (it is) but, as far as I'm concerned, the better I feel about the pictures, the more likely Helena is to get a sibling.

A long time ago I was the first person in my family to have a blog. It was fun for a while, lots of other people started blogging, I liked deciding which pictures to put up and I tried to be interesting. But then the pressure to post something worth reading became to great and I walked away from my blog.

Well, now with an awesome new family to show off, blogging isn't about me... it is about how cute they are and it doesn't matter if I write something worth reading because everybody loves pictures of babies.
